How to Learn German Fast: About Me! :) Again.

How to Learn German Fast: About Me! :)

Again.

Hello and welcome to my German language learning site!

I am Shawn, and am the President of the German Language Society, acad year 2009/2010.

I was once the General-Secretary, for 08/09. Click here to see my old write up on myself :)

I study Economics and History, with Economics as my major subject and History as my minor.

I studied German 5 and German 6 at NUS, doing very badly for German 5 and then going on to fare superbly in German 6.

This was because I was quite unused to NUS when I was in my first semester, and things were very new to me; also, when I was placed in the German 5 class after doing a placement test, I was then the youngest and probably the weakest student in class. I had studied German at O levels way back, and got my A1 in 2001. How time flies!

I went on to do my Testdaf after German 6, completing it with 5-5-4-4 in 2007. (I write about how to study and how to well in the Testdaf also on this site, so if you're interested in German language proficiency qualifications, I might have the information or the tips that you need on my site. Naturally, I don't know where all the test centres are or what the questions will be, or stuff like that - I only give advice and friendly tips!)

I became General Secretary in 2008, coming up with a book on SOPs (standard operating procedures) and also a process of elections, among others. Now I am the President of the society, and very happy about that, of course!

I studied German for the love of it and am in the German society out of passion for my CCA, which I like very much. I have done 3 matric fairs so far, and have been to countless club activities. I am very proud to say that this school year - Aug 2009 - has seen a dramatic increase in club membership and an increase in interest in our society. I am presiding over a change in climate and it is my luck and happiness to be with an excellent team.

So, once again - I am Shawn, welcome to my German language learning site, and thanks for reading and cheers! I'm pretty sure you might want to surf around my site and sites to see what suits you. All the best as you study at NUS, and also all the best as you study and learn German, a most fascinating language indeed.

President, NUS German Language Society 09/10

How to learn German fast - key verbs conjugated, part 9

How to learn German fast - key verbs conjugated, part 9

Once again, I am back after a long hiatus. Somehow, demand has been rising for my German site yet I was too busy to do anything about it; but here I am! :)

In this post, I conjugate German verbs starting with H. The good thing for my tired fingers is that ... there are apparently few verbs beginning with H in German, at least from the point of view of the "Teach Yourself" German Verbs series. I am only conjugating the key verbs and the easier verbs like heissen (who doesn't know "Ich heisse...") are not stated below.

haben - to have
handeln - to act, trade
heben - to lift, raise
heilen - to heal, cure
helfen - to help
holen - to fetch

German verbs starting with H, conjugated:

haben - to have
ich habe
du hast
er hat
wir haben
ihr habt
sie haben

ich hatte
ich habe gehabt
ich hatte gehabt
ich werde haben
ich werde gehabt haben

handeln - to act, trade
ich handele
du handelst
er handelt
wir handeln
ihr handelt
sie handeln

ich handelte
ich habe gehandelt
ich hatte gehandelt
ich werde handeln
ich werde handeln haben

heben - to lift, raise
ich hebe
du hebst
er hebt
wir heben
ihr hebt
sie heben

ich hob
ich habe gehoben
ich hatte gehoben
ich werde heben
ich werde gehoben haben

heilen - to heal, cure
ich heile
du heilst
er heilt
wir heilen
ihr heilt
sie heilen

ich heilte
ich habe geheilt
ich hatte geheilt
ich werde heilen
ich werde geheilt haben

helfen - to help
ich helfe
du hilfst
er hilft
wir helfen
ihr helft
sie helfen

ich half
ich habe geholfen
ich hatte geholfen
ich werde helfen
ich werde geholfen haben

holen - to fetch
ich hole
du holst
er holt
wir holen
ihr holt
sie holen

ich holte
ich habe geholt
ich hatte geholt
ich werde holen
ich werde geholt haben

Just as I've mentioned before, a cursory look at the German verbs starting with H should also lead you to suspect there is an underlying pattern which helps you learn German verbs fast... and there is a pattern to the various tenses as well. More verbs to come in the next post, and I hope I will have more time to write on German. Thanks, and cheers!
